Solar developer expects Farmingville project to go live by spring

Farmingville is about to become Solar-Farmingville.

Solar developer Agilitas Energy is aiming to complete its solar installation at Brookhaven Town Hall by the end of February and start generating electricity by the spring.

The development will see 3,800 new solar panels on the grounds of 1 Independence Hill, enough to power about 150 homes around the clock.

The project is part of PSEG Long Island’s Clean Solar Initiative, which allows applicants like Agilitas to build and maintain solar arrays and sell the power back to the utility for a fixed-rate under a long-term agreement.

As more businesses and municipalities invest in renewable energy projects, solar panels will continue to be a more common sight across the Island. Ken Rubin, managing partner of Agilitas Energy, told The Long Island Times that the company is “talking to other towns about replicating our success in Brookhaven and Islip.”

Agilitas recently finished construction of two other solar projects in Suffolk County – one on the 39-acre Holbrook landfill and another on the shuttered Blydenburgh landfill in Hauppauge.
