Veteran volunteer named to board of Firefighter’s Home
Vincent Ammirati, a long-time Long Island volunteer fireman, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Firefighter’s Home skilled-nursing facility.
Ammirati currently serves as the second vice president of the Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Association and a member of the Legislative Committee of the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY).
The Firefighters Home traces its roots back to 1892 and currently has 89 residents.
“I am honored for the opportunity to continue my service to FASNY and my fellow volunteer firefighters in this new capacity and join an outstanding group of trustees in their dedication to supporting volunteer firefighters who have served their communities but can no longer care for themselves,” Ammirati said in a written statement.
Ammirati, who worked at the Suffolk County Water Authority for more than 30 years. has been serving the county for more than 40 years as a volunteer firefighter. He is chaplin and assistant treasurer of the Selden Fire Department, trustee and treasurer of the Selden Volunteer Exempt Benevolent Association, director at large of the Southern New York Volunteer Firefighters Association, and a member of the Suffolk County Parade Officials Association, Red Knights Motorcycle Club, and Riders of Fire Motorcycle Club.
Currently a bus driver for the Bristal Assisted Living facility, Ammirati is still an active firefighter with the Selden Fire Department and resides in Bay Shore.
