Ronald McDonald House to open near Stony Brook Children’s Hospital
A new Ronald McDonald House is set to open its doors on Long Island by 2026, promising a sanctuary for patients and their families at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
Spanning three floors, the Ronald McDonald House in Stony Brook will feature 30 en suite bedrooms, alongside a wealth of recreational facilities designed to provide a home away from home. Families will have access to amenities including a fitness center, movie theater and dining area, as well as spaces dedicated to education and tutoring, ensuring comfort and normalcy during challenging times.
This new house expands the Ronald McDonald House Charities’ (RMHC) mission on Long Island, joining its counterpart in New Hyde Park and more than 350 similar establishments worldwide. The facilities play a crucial role in easing the burdens of travel and accommodation, allowing parents to concentrate on their child’s recovery.
The nonprofit currently has two volunteer-led family rooms at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, which provides families with private bathrooms, showers, laundry, meals and quiet spaces to relax.
Funded primarily through generous private donations, with approximately $23.5 million already raised towards a $30 million goal, the project has also received support from Suffolk County.
The planned facility is expected to begin construction this spring, heralding a new chapter of support and care for families with hospitalized children.
