Jersey Mike’s Subs goes gothic in Bohemia

Long Island’s newest Jersey Mike’s Subs has opened in Bohemia on the site of a historic inn.

The 1,500-square-foot sandwich shop is located in a newly constructed gothic-style building designed to look like the old Normandie Inn that occupied the site since the 1920s.

Once known as the Hotel Chateau La Boheme, the inn at 1500 Smithtown Ave. was originally built as a residence for a Czech baron before becoming the Normandie Inn, which allegedly served as a speakeasy during the Prohibition Era.

A Jersey Mike’s local franchise firm, Management 360, which is owned by Alvin Goldstein, Marvin Goldfarb, Mitchell Cohen and Seth Goldstein, sought to renovate the inn but it collapsed during construction. So the company built a whole new structure, borrowing from the design of the original inn to house their latest sub shop.

“The New Normandy Inn is reborn, designed and built to honor the former building,” Seth Goldstein said in a company statement. “We are excited to bring Jersey Mike’s to the Bohemia community, housed in this spot with so much intriguing local history. Please enjoy our hospitality, our great subs and the good spirits of the New Normandy Inn.” 

To celebrate last week’s opening, the new Bohemia Jersey Mike’s held a five-day fundraiser to support Long Island Cares. This is the franchise group’s eighth Jersey Mike’s.
