Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics New York

Hundreds are expected to brave the chilling surf at the annual Polar Plunge at TOBAY Beach on Saturday, March 23.

The participants will be “Freezin’ for a Reason” as the event once again benefits Special Olympics New York.

The polar plungers will be given specific plunge times and parameters during their registration, which begins at 9 a.m., with plunging times beginning at 11 a.m. Requested donation is $25 per participant and the event welcomes individual and team fundraisers. Plungers who raise $150 receive the official 2024 commemorative Polar Plunge sweatshirt.

Sponsors include the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Nestle Health Science Foundation, Nassau County PBA, 106.1 BLI, and the Town of Oyster Bay.

All funds raised at the event support Special Olympics New York’s programs and promote awareness of people living with intellectual disabilities in New York. Proceeds will help to provide year-round sports training and competition in over 22 Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities living in New York, giving them continuing opportunities at no cost to them or their families.

Special Olympics New York is the largest state chapter in the country, serving more than 42,000 athletes across New York with year-round sports training, athletic competition, and health screenings. The organization also partners with more than 300 schools statewide to offer Unified Sports, where students with and without disabilities compete as teammates.
