Smithtown hosts softball tournament for autism awareness
The Town of Smithtown, New York Empire Softball and the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) held the first annual Autism Awareness Charity Softball Tournament at Flynn Memorial Ballpark last month.
The event, held on Friday, April 26, featured eight teams, all from New York law enforcement and first-responder agencies. It raised almost $10,000 for the Adults & Children with Learning & Developmental Disabilities Kramer Learning Center, a leading not-for-profit agency on Long Island that supports the needs of people with autism, learning and developmental disabilities, and their families.
The tournament, spearheaded by Eric Theiss and New York Empire Softball, was held in celebration of Autism Awareness Month, and was sponsored by the law firm Miller and Caggiano.
