KPMG promotes equity in education for LI kids through its Community Impact Day
KPMG LLP, the audit, tax and advisory firm, held its third Community Impact Day on Tuesday, August 6 with a national volunteer effort involving employees from 79 offices across the country, supporting more than 400 local organizations including the Saltzman East Memorial School in Farmingdale.
KPMG partner Robert Behar and other KPMG volunteers dedicated their time to 110 students from kindergarten through 5th grade by running reading circles, a book shopping and focusing on mental health by helping them build calming jars.
“Community Impact Day brings our people together and gives us the opportunity as a professional services firm to make the difference by devoting our skills, resources and time to help transform our communities,” said Paul Knopp, chair and CEO of KPMG. “Our commitment to investing in our communities is ongoing and our extraordinary people are at the heart of this important work.”
The annual Community Impact Day, which supports organizations, programs and initiatives that advance equity across education, mental health and community vitality, initially began as a celebration of KPMG’s 125th anniversary in 2022. Due to the profound impact it had on communities and employees alike, the firm decided to continue it as an annual event.
“Increasing access to education and mental health and empowering our people to take an active role in improving community vitality are cornerstones of Community Impact Day,” said Anita Whitehead, president and chair of the KPMG U.S. Foundation. “This annual day of service is about our employees — each year it is an opportunity for our people to reconnect over supporting a cause they are passionate about, fostering a better sense of connection, purpose and wellbeing. It is also about deepening our commitment to accelerating transformative change in the communities where we live and work.”
The KPMG U.S. Foundation has pledged to contribute an additional $1 million in grants over the next three years to nonprofit organizations in both New York and Orlando, as well as $2.7 million in community vitality grants in 21 U.S. markets through a collaboration with KPMG HUB markets, helping organizations take a holistic approach to addressing interconnected issues unique to each community.
