Community celebrates reopening of reimagined library
Community members and library officials gathered last Saturday to celebrate the grand reopening of the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library’s main branch.
Located at 407 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, the newly renovated 45,000-square-foot facility introduces modernized, accessible spaces designed to foster learning, connection and cultural enrichment.
The renovation includes expanded meeting rooms, ADA-compliant seating, advanced technology labs and a makerspace equipped with 3D printers. These updates complement two 7,000-square-foot satellite branches in Mastic Beach and Moriches designed to improve library access across the district.
“From quiet study spaces to hands-on makerspaces and advanced technology resources, this building has been reimagined to meet the diverse needs of our patrons,” said Kerri Rosalia, library director, in a statement about the project’s community-driven approach. “Today’s reopening signifies a new era for our library.”
Library Board President Joseph Maiorana described the renovated main branch as a resource hub that reflects a commitment to community growth.
“With each enhancement, we’re delivering not just a library but a resource hub that opens doors to knowledge, creativity and opportunity for every resident,” Maiorana said.
The updated main branch and satellite locations represent a unified effort to serve all corners of the library district, providing vital resources for residents to thrive.
