Made in Huntington Film and TV Festival encourages emerging filmmakers
The Made in Huntington Film & TV Festival is inviting both amateur and professional filmmakers to submit their works for a chance to be featured in the festival and screened at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington this spring.
Presented by the Huntington Office of Film & Television, the festival takes place from April 3 through April 6.
Filmmakers who are Film Freeway Gold members can take advantage of a 50% discount on entry fees to the festival for both regular and late submission deadlines. The entry deadline is Jan. 20 and the extended late deadline is Feb. 12.
A key highlight of the festival’s first year is the Industry Day, which will offer networking opportunities for emerging filmmakers. A one-day event held concurrently with the festival screenings, Industry Day will bring together filmmakers and network executives who can underwrite, affiliate, and assist with the distribution of selected films.
“I am happy we have created the Huntington Office of Film & Television which is producing the festival as a way to attract a new industry to town that has already delivered incremental revenues into our local economy from a variety of new productions, including fashion photo shoots with Bergdorf Goodman at Crab Meadow Beach and Netflix’s upcoming series ‘Sirens’ which was shot at Caumsett State Park on Lloyd Neck,” said Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth, conveying his support of the festival and the film industry developing in the town.
The festival’s programming also includes a series of standalone events titled “Meet the Filmmaker.” One such event, “Meet the Filmmaker – Fashion Film & Photos,” sold out at The Spotlight Room at The Paramount NY on Friday, Nov. 8. This event featured Huntington filmmaker Mark Bozek’s documentary “The Times of Bill Cunningham,” moderated by Fox 5’s Christal Young, with special guests including model Pat Cleveland, artist Ruben Toledo, Vogue’s Tonne Goodman, and The New York Times’ Carol Dietz, who discussed the making of the documentary surrounding famed fashion photographer, Bill Cunningham.
Future “Meet the Filmmaker” events will focus on “Making it in Huntington” and “The Reality of Reality TV” session which is scheduled for March at the Drake Media Center.
In anticipation of the festival and in partnership with the New York State Governor’s Office of Motion Picture & Television Development, the festival will host a virtual FAM Tour for filmmakers later this month. It offers the town the opportunity to provide filmmakers and location scouts with exclusive tours of some of Huntington’s most iconic filming locations.
Tickets to the Cinema Arts Centre screenings will go on sale in February.
