Lottery opens for affordable apartments in Baldwin

Applications are now open for a new affordable apartment building in Baldwin.

The development, called Baldwin Commons, is located at 785 Merrick Road. The 33-unit project was built by Park Grove Realty and the Community Development Corporation of Long Island, which is conducting the lottery for its 27 one-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments. 

The apartments have modern finishes, luxury vinyl plank flooring, and spacious open floor layouts with oversized kitchens and bathrooms. Amenities include a fitness room, a laundry room and a community room.

Baldwin Commons is a half-mile walk to the Baldwin LIRR station and a few blocks from grocery stores, a public library, daycare facilities, medical centers, Silver Creek Park and several restaurants.

Applications for the lottery must be postmarked by April 8 and the lottery will take place at noon on April 22, according to CDCLI. 

The affordable apartments will be leased to people whose households earn up to 60 percent of the area median income with nearly a third of the apartments leased to seniors.
