Jones Beach to host fundraising walk for Mothers Against Drunk Driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has announced this year’s Walk Like MADD Long Island event.

The walk, which aims to raise awareness and funds to fight impaired driving and provide free support services to victims of impaired driving, will take place on Sunday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at the Northwell at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh.

This year’s event will feature a Community and Engagement Fair with live music, venue tours, networking, art activities, and more. There will also be a special Victim Tribute Area at the events so victims have a private space.

Impaired driving fatalities are up 33% nationwide since 2019, and drunk driving crashes represented 32% of all traffic fatalities in New York in 2022 — a staggering figure that underscores the urgency of acting now, according to MADD.

Funds raised from Walk Like MADD will provide critical support for MADD’s free 24/7 victim services, including guidance with crime victim compensation, assistance through the criminal and civil justice systems, court accompaniment for hearings and trials, help with victim impact statements, emotional support for victims and their loved ones, and referrals to additional resources and support groups.
